On Thursday, May 22nd., the Georgia Chapter of ASID held its annual awards program and honored James Essary with its top award, the 2003 Design Achievement Award. Mr. Essary was presented with the 2003 Design Achievement award "in recognition of a long and outstanding career of excellent work in interior design," according to Grace Howard, ASID-GA Chapter Administrator. This is the highest honor any ASID chapter can bestow on a member. Mr. Essary joins the ranks of past recipients, Alan Ferry, Charles Gandy, Rita Guest and Henri Jova.

Along with design partner, Bill Murphy of Essary & Murphy, James Essary also was awarded the ASID Georgia Chapter's Gold Design Excellence Award for best residential design over 3,000 square feet for a private residence in Buckhead, and the Silver Design Excellence Award for the family room of the 2002 Atlanta Symphony Decorators' Show House.
